{"id":168,"date":"2011-03-07T16:55:28","date_gmt":"2011-03-07T21:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calliegolden.org\/blog\/?p=168"},"modified":"2011-03-07T17:00:26","modified_gmt":"2011-03-07T22:00:26","slug":"a-new-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calliegolden.org\/blog\/a-new-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"A new plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Callie is feeling much better today, but yesterday\u2019s sudden and acute sickness has changed our expectations and our plan of care for Callie.<\/p>\n<p>This afternoon she got a <a title=\"PICC line\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peripherally_inserted_central_catheter\" target=\"_blank\">PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter)<\/a> placed in her right arm. It will allow her to receive medicine and nutrients without the instability of a traditional IV line.<\/p>\n<p>With the PICC in place she should grow stronger. Within a couple of weeks she should be strong enough to get a gastric tube for nutrition.<\/p>\n<p>After the surgery to place the feeding tube, we can start thinking about getting her home. So Callie will be in the hospital for a while.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s possible she may seldom need the feeding tube. But the past 10 days have made it clear that there will be times when she needs it. And we believe that having a way to optimize Callie\u2019s nutrition will help her enjoy life more thoroughly.<\/p>\n<p>Unless things change this likely will be our last blog post for at least a few days. Instead of posting each day we\u2019ll now be updating the blog as things change for Callie.<\/p>\n<p>We have no way to thank you all for the support we\u2019re receiving through this blog and in so many other ways.
